Position Description: Engineering Project Manager

Overview: Recognized leader in the home comfort product industry. Products are sold through major retailers such as Lowes, Wal-Mart, Ace Hardware, Walgreens, K-mart, etc. Recently launched a corporate initiative to grow the company aggressively through new product development. The Engineering Project Manager will play a pivotal role in this growth strategy.

Summary: This position manages projects involving product development, cost reduction and product improvement. This is a hands-on working manager position and may or may not have direct reports depending on the project load.

Essential Duties: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Utilize accepted engineering practices for evaluating, developing and documenting component and assembly design
• Utilize 3-D CAD (Pro-E Wildfire) system to develop concepts for components and assemblies which meet prescribed goals of form, fit, function and cost
• Provide direction to designers and technicians for evaluating and refining design concepts
• Evaluate component designs using classical analysis, computer simulations, prototyping and testing.
• Evaluate manufacturability of component designs using design reviews, manufacturing reviews, and supplier reviews
• Fully accountable for projects from cradle to grave including project planning, cost, schedule, design and launch.
• Facilitate key project team meetings and communicate with overseas suppliers.
• Participate in business and financial analysis surrounding design activities.
• Participate with other departments in new product development process.
• Work with regulatory agencies such as UL, CSA, and ETL to ensure new and existing product compliance.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and instruction manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to formulate test plans and test protocols.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to approach problems creatively. Ability to apply lessons learned to new challenges. Ability to perform root cause analysis. Ability to break down complex problems into elementary engineering problems.
Ability to establish synergistic working relationships with cross-functional team members. Ability to critically evaluate designs and statistical data. Ability to lead and motivate team members.


Education/Experience: Four year college degree in mechanical (BSME) or electrical engineering (BSEE); Five (5) years + experience in engineering practice; Have successfully completed multiple product development cycles in the consumer electro-mechanical product industry; Asia supplier product development experience very desirable.

Required Skills: MS Office (Words, Excel, PowerPoint); CAD system; Pro-E preferred; MS Project desirable; Analysis software such as FEA and Mold Flow a plus.
